What Goes Into GAF Master Elite® Certification?

When people search for the best roofing company, the phrase “GAF Master Elite Certified” often comes up. Interestingly, only a small percentage of American roofing contractors have earned GAF certification. For roofing companies, nothing speaks more volumes than a GAF Master Elite accreditation. In fact, when it comes to replacing your roof, you’ll want to choose a reliable roofing company. However, with so many choices, it might be difficult to select one. If you ever find yourself in such a situation, ensuring that your contractor has earned a GAF Master Elite Certification is a great first step. So, what does it mean to be a GAF Master Elite certified professional?

Background of GAF

General Aniline & Film, or GAF for short, is the leading American manufacturer of roofing and waterproofing products. The company is so renowned that there’s a 25% chance that your house was constructed using at least one of their materials. Furthermore, the company has been around for more than 125 years, making it one of the oldest in the business.

Over the years, GAF has earned a solid reputation for reliability and competence. That’s why they provide a comprehensive training program for roofers. Due to the demanding nature of the GAF Master Elite certification program, very few contractors are able to earn this distinction.

Requirements for Earning GAF Certification

Roofing companies that want to earn the GAF Master Elite designation must demonstrate their expertise in a number of areas beyond just completing GAF’s training program. The following are among these prerequisites:

  • Original municipal and state permits to do business
  • A bare minimum of seven years experience as a licensed roofer
  • Credible liability and workers’ compensation
  • A relatively positive image among clients and the community as a whole

Contractors who wish to maintain their GAF Master Elite Certification will need to participate in regular training. This ensures that they are continually aware of and prepared for any new advancements in the industry’s use of technology.

To be clear, GAF Master Elite Certified Contractors are not the same thing as GAF Certified; yet, there are only a small number of these contractors in the nation (approximately 3%).

Warranties

Having an impeccable reputation in the community is only one of the many standards that roofing companies must satisfy to get GAF Master Elite Certification. Contractors that have earned the GAF certification tend to be cautious. Nevertheless, blunders are inevitable, and some may have severe financial consequences for you as a homeowner. That’s why so many GAF-approved contractors back their work with warranties. The levels of warranty protection that GAF offers include:

The Golden Pledge Warranty

As far as warranties go, this one covers everything. For as long as you own the shingle, you’re protected against any and all manufacturing faults at no extra cost. For 25 years, Golden Pledge will repair or replace any faulty construction. The expenses of disposal and demolition are included in this total. A GAF Master EliteTM Roofing Contractor will fix any problems with your roof, whether they are the result of faulty materials or sloppy installation. A Golden Pledge is a non-recurring guarantee.

The GAF’s Silver Pledge Warranty

This is the company’s mid-tier offering. For the duration of the shingle’s service life, this will take care of any problems caused by the manufacturer. Silver Pledge offers a ten-year warranty on its craftsmanship. The expenses of disposal and demolition are included in this total. This warranty is also transferrable and valid just once.

Systems Plus Warranty

This is GAF’s most basic warranty. It offers a Workmanship Coverage of just two years but covers all manufacturer faults for the lifetime of the shingle. Tear-off charges are covered by Systems Plus, but disposals aren’t. An individual may only transfer this warranty once.

Why Hire a GAF Master Elite Roofing Contractor?

As a homeowner having their roof worked on, nothing is more reassuring than knowing the contractor working on your house is GAF – certified. A GAF Master Elite Roofer is the roofing industry’s gold standard in terms of expertise and is what anyone who knows a thing or two about roofs would recommend.
